Ontario Association for Suicide Prevention Inc. (OASP) is a provincial body that links communities, organizations and individuals in Ontario by supporting, advocating for and encouraging the development of suicide prevention, intervention and postvention activities.

Ontario Association for Suicide Prevention works towards reducing the rate of suicide and minimizing the harmful consequences of suicidal behaviour by providing information and resources to communities throughout the province of Ontario. The Ontario Association for Suicide Prevention works toward the achievement of its purpose by advocacy, support, education, partnerships and collaboration rather than by the provision of direct services.

Vision Statement
To collaborate and partner with communities and organizations to provide: education, networking, advocacy and resource development on suicide prevention with the goal of reducing suicidal behaviour and reducing the impact of suicide on individuals, families and communities.
Goals
Our goal is to prevent suicide and suicidal behaviour by:
   

Increasing awareness of suicide and of the social, political and economic conditions that promote hope, resiliency and a reason for living.

Advocating and supporting the development of research, resources and effective approaches to suicide prevention.

Co-ordinating individuals, organizations and communities interested in Suicide Prevention.

Communicating with all levels of government and community stakeholders for the implementation of effective suicide prevention strategies.

Mobilizing public opinion and decision makers to confront the gravity of the problem.
Objectives
Our objectives are to:
   
Raise public awareness about the seriousness of the problem;
Mobilize public opinion, stakeholders, policy makers to promote activities that will foster the emergence of a social, political and economic environment that foster commitment to the promotion of optimal quality of life, long-living, sustaining hope about the future, and the prevention of suicide;
Support and help member organizations and coalitions involved in suicide prevention efforts to sustain their capacity.
Link and integrate the efforts of individuals, communities, organizations, and government to reduce the burden of suicide in the province;
Provide suicide prevention resources to those organizations and individuals involved in suicide prevention activities;
Partner and collaborate with member organizations to develop culturally appropriate suicide prevention approaches to address the varied needs of Ontario’s diverse communities;
Provide leadership to the suicide prevention movement in the province.
